In this blog post I would like to reflect on the Foucault’s theory that considers the power ‘as a productive network which runs through the whole social body’ (Foucault, 1980, p. 119, cited in Hall, 2013, p.34). In other words, for Foucault power induces forms of knowledge as well as produces discourse. In terms of the issue that I aim at disclosing in my project the concept can be explained. As I discussed in the earlier blog posts, Apple products are bought by great amount of people. These gadgets just put in the hands of millions and what individuals actually see is the default design that cannot be changed. Therefore it becomes a part of everyday life that we get used to and, consequently, like. Hence, Apple not only produces the trends, indeed, it gets the power after each sold device. At the same time, it is important to pinpoint that the concept of my project can be explained in line with discourse as well. By encoding the message that the big companies establish and support standardisation of design I will produce the certain ‘regime of truth’ ( Hall, 2013, p.34). Depending on the website’s success, I will be able to gain some power to influence on people through the means of knowledge’s production. Therefore, in the future I need to be careful about the information I am giving since it can brake the ethical rules and mislead individuals.
